Clonross Daly Family Tree 1 Introduction

Hello, 

Last year, I was selling my house and found a number of boxes of photos, papers and letters about my family and decided to photo all the information with my smartphone and upload to my Google drive and to the relevant ancestor on a new account that I set up at FamilySearch. It's easy but takes some time.

It saved me from having to create a family tree structure and it was free. I thought this will be a small project that will be completed soon. Little did I know!

Now having uploaded lots of letters, photos, post cards and legal documents; I have discovered it is a very absorbing project and somewhat addictive.

I realised that a great deal of my ancestors were pretty interesting people! Please see below a short summary of some these people with links to how they are related to me and more information about them.

If you are related to me, these are also your ancestors. The Clonross Daly Family Tree lets you know where you came from and may also be important for your children and grandchildren.  

Please see below profile of my ancestor, Hannah Jane Tucker As the sole heiress, she owned substantial property(at Clonross/Parsonstown and Culmullin) in her own right in what was then a man's world.  Although as you will discover, she got herself into trouble early on and was a fascinating character! 

 

On the Ennis(my mother's) side, there is a recent history of academic/professional advancement concentrated in Dublin which culminated in my mother, Denise Marie Ennis, becoming one of the few qualified female veterinary surgeons in 1956. My parents met while studying to be veterinary surgeons. Aleen Cust, my 10th cousin

twice removed, became the first female veterinary surgeon to be recognised by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.^[1][2]

Hannah Jane Tucker

20 October 1820 – 16 February 1890

Hannah Jane Tucker was the only child of Lieutenant Colonel William John Tucker and Mabel Wilson(who was the heiress to a substantial property).

There was a controversial court case in 1839 where Hannah Jane Tucker's marriage to Peter Yore(employee of her mother) was annulled and Peter Yore and his colleagues were imprisoned for some time. During her very brief and later annulled marriage to Peter Yore, Hannah Jane Tucker had a son called Henry.  He went by the name Henry Williams — “Williams” being the surname of one of Hannah Jane Tucker's cousins.  
She then married(1840) James Masterson with whom she had six children and who reputedly became an alcoholic. James moved to Liverpool with their eldest son, William.
Hannah Jane, then, went to Montreal, Canada(approximately 1859 to be confirmed, although a canadian newspaper obituary on her daughter Mary Jane mentions 1860)with some of her children and George William Johnson, her third relationship. She had two more children, Rosanna and Treasa(Theresa)Lee, with George but never remarried.

Louis XVI (Louis-Auguste; French: [lwi sɛːz]; 23 August 1754 – 21 January 1793) was the last king of France before the fall of the monarchy during the French Revolution. The son of Louis, Dauphin of France (son and heir apparent of King Louis XV), and Maria Josepha of Saxony, Louis became the new Dauphin when his father died in 1765. In 1770, he married Marie Antoinette. He became King of France and Navarre on his paternal grandfather's death on 10 May 1774,^[5] and reigned until the abolition of the monarchy on 21 September 1792. From 1791 onwards, he used the style of king of the French.

Marie Antoinette^[a] (Marie Antoinette Josèphe Jeanne; 2 November 1755 – 16 October 1793) was Queen Consort of France as the wife of Louis XVI from 10 May 1774 until the abolition of the French monarchy in 1792 during the French Revolution.

Born in November 1755 at the Hofburg in Vienna, Marie was the fifteenth child and youngest daughter of Emperor Francis I and Empress Maria Theresa. By right of her birth, she was an Austrian archduchess of the House of Habsburg-Lorraine. In 1769, Marie was betrothed to Louis-Auguste, Dauphin of France, in order to strengthen the Franco–Austrian alliance. The two were married in 1770, thus making Marie dauphine of France at the age of fourteen. In 1774, Louis-Auguste inherited the French throne as Louis XVI, becoming king of France, and Marie queen consort.

Maria Ludovica Leopoldina Franziska Theresia Josepha Lucia; 

12 December 1791 – 17 December 1847 was Duchess of Parma from 11 April 1814 until her death in 1847. 

She was Napoleon Bonaparte's second wife and as such Empress of the French and Queen of Italy from their marriage on 2 April 1810 until his abdication on 6 April 1814.

Marie Josèphe Rose de Tascher de La Pagerie (23 June 1763 – 29 May 1814) was the first wife of Emperor Napoleon I from 1796 to 1809. In this capacity, she was Empress of the French from 1804 to 1809 and Queen of Italy from 1805 to 1809.

Empereur de Françe Napoléon Bonaparte

Napoleon Bonaparte(born Napoleone di Buonaparte;15 August 1769 – 5 May 1821), later known by his regnal name Napoleon I, was Emperor of the French from 18 May 1804 until his first abdication in 1814, with a brief restoration during the Hundred Days in 1815. He rose to prominence as a general during the French Revolution and led a series of military campaigns across Europe and the Middle East during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. As a statesman, he implemented numerous legal and administrative reforms in France and Europe.

In the next blog, you will read more about my ancestors - including the Gurneys who were an influential family of English Quakers, who had a major part in the development of Norwich, England. They established Gurney's Bank in 1770, which merged into Barclays Bank in 1896. They established successful breweries.^[1] A number of family members were abolitionists.^[2] Members of the family still live in the United Kingdom.
